Solar power is electricity that was converted from sunlight. You can directly covert the solar power into electricity by using something called photovoltaics. A photovoltaic is a system where it absorbs light and release electrons. The freed electrons are captured, converted into electric currents, then converted again into electricity. You can also indirectly make electricity using concentrated solar power. This is when you use lenses, mirrors, and tracking systems to create a small beam from a large area of sunlight. Solar power was invented in 1839 by Alexandre Edmond Becquerel when he discovered the photovoltaic effect. Solar panels are used all over the world like this one to your right. It is in Canterbury, New Hampshire, United States.
